Health Benefits of Tennis

There are a number of health benefits form tennis including improved cognition, improved cardiovascular health, reduced mental stress, better muscle tone. The message is that the health benefits should be used in order to drive participation in sports and this starts with education and dissemination of information to clubs and coaches.

Babette Pluim, MD, MPH, PhD, is a Consultant in Sports and Exercise Medicine and Chief Medical Adviser of the Royal Netherlands Lawn Tennis Association. She is Team Physician of the Dutch Davis Cup and Fed Cup teams and Tournament Physician at the ATP and WTA tournaments in ´s Hertogenbosch and Rotterdam (the Netherlands).
