Judy Murray talks about how we are losing young girls to other activities because of modern technology and living in the age of infinite choice, and young girls who have usually only known female figures in their lives are going to be scared by boisterous boys and a predominantly male coaching workforce.

Girls, Judy says, are more excited by group dynamics, and that we need to get inside girls’ worlds by making tennis sessions more fun, friendlier, and easier (at least at first). ‘MissHits’ is a programme for young girls only, and to be run by females only, that aims at providing the best possible introduction to tennis for young girls. ‘She Rallies’ is another initiative which aims at providing workshops and courses for females engaged in delivering sessions, although not necessarily qualified coaches, on running effective tennis sessions and programmes for girls of different ages.
